Current Events:
Christian Arts Fellowship + Education: Sharing your faith through the Arts
Purpose: 1. to encourage artists to express their faith thru their works of art
2. to share ideas, techniques, critiques, education, etc with fellow artists
3. to encourage fellow artist to pursue their God given talents and abilities
Activities: 1. get togethers: to share, to encourage, to critique, etc
2. providing an audience: shows, exhibits, competitions, etc

Operation Christmas Child Celebration Meeting: This year's celebration meeting will be held on Monday,
May 5 from 7-9 pm at Bigelow Church. We are going to CELEBRATE and thank our Lord for His great
blessings to the children served through OCC . More than 7.6 million shoe box gifts were sent in the name
of Jesus to children who need to hear the gospel. Our evening will include:
-Worship
-Spiritual Impact Stories
-National Initiatives and Updates
-International Prayer Initiatives and Updates
-SoutEast Ohio Shoe Box Collection increases
-OCC Resources for Your Church or Organization
-Introduction of New SouthEast Ohio Team Members
-2008 Celebration Media

Bible Discussion Board Now Online: Should Christians be defined by their jobs? Is there such a thing as
'safe sex' outside of marriage? Does God kill people? Is there more than one way to God? Are you in
need of prayer? A link on the right side of this page will take you to our "Discussion Forum" where you can

Bible Study and Pizza: Campus Ministry Bible Study takes place every Wednesday from noon to one at the

Textbook Exchange closes down: In mid-December 2007, Campus Ministry closed down its textbook

Learn to crochet at Campus Ministry: Crochet a prayer shawl, a baby blanket, whatever -- this Tuesday,
Jan. 15, noon to 1p, C.M. House, 3rd Street and Union Street. Olive Hannah began a ministry of making
prayer shawls at Sunshine UMC in South Shore. Olive and her daughter, Floretta, will get us started.
Please bring 3 skeins of seven oz. Red Heart yarn, your choice of color(s), and an i or j crochet needle. We
will continue meeting on Tuesdays, same place, same time.
"Devoted to Devotion" at Campus Ministry: Beginning Thursday January 24th, 2008 from noon to 1 pm.,
SSU Campus Ministry is sponsoring a weekly ecumenical spiritual growth group on the theme "Devoted to
Devotion." The group, which is led by Christel Hilgarth, will explore the richness of ancient Christian
spiritual practices that promote spiritual growth and a closer relationship with God. Christel is a retreat
leader, a guest speaker, and conducts spiritual formation workshops. She earned her Certificate in Spiritual
Formation from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA. She currently serves as Vice Moderator for
Study and Spiritual Development for the Presbyterian Women in the Synod of The Covenant, PC(U.S.).
Christel is also an Ordained Elder and Deacon and a member at First Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth.
Church Search 2008-9: Campus Ministry is currently working with local congregations to create a pamphlet
of local churches. Each participating church will be given one page to describe itself. Students will be able
to scan through the pamphlet, searching for a church that suits them--or for a few to try. The first edition is
available here, with printed editions available at the beginning of the 2008-9 school year. Area pastors
wishing to participate in Church Search should write to campusministryssu@yahoo.com.
Anti-War Demonstrations: Members of the university community and others who want to express their
opposition to the Iraq war: a demonstration against the war is scheduled the third Thursday of every month
from 4 to 5 pm. The demonstration takes place on the corner of 6th and Chillicothe Streets in downtown
Portsmouth.
Campus Ministry feeds hundreds: Campus Ministry fed hundreds of students at its annual Thanksgiving
lunch. The event was held the Thursday before Thanksgiving in the University Center. The event was
enjoyed by students, faculty, and staff. As always, the event was free of charge. Visit our Thanksgiving
